Joe Burson

As most of you know, Joe was a long-time member of the Big Woods Goods family. He never met a customer he didn’t end up calling a friend. He gave his life doing a job he loved and most people did not want to do. Joe leaves behind, Mary Kate, his bride of 2 years.

Big Woods Goods would like to help by accepting donations for Mary Kate and the immediate Burson family.

We will be accepting donations at our 350 Ronnell Rd. location. Donations can be made by cash, check or credit cards. Big Woods Goods will be matching the first $5,000.00 received.

You can also donate online here through the Friends of Holly Springs Police Foundation.

Archery is safe, fun, and easy to learn. It is a sport that is geared for all ages and can be enjoyed by the entire family.

There is no limit to learning archery. The various programs we offer will help participants acquire the skills needed to learn archery, whether it is for the joy of the sport or to participate in the many archery tournaments offered throughout the country.

Benefits of Archery

Focus – Concentration – Goals

Participants learn that they must overcome distractions and obstacles, and have a plan of action. Archery provides fundamental relaxation qualities. The archer must be focused on the shot process and the overall outcome of that process. Archery is a self-challenging and rewarding activity that can help archers succeed as individuals or as part of a team. Archery helps our participants to succeed in multiple aspects of their everyday lives.

Our programs are structured to teach Olympic-target style archery to students 9 years of age and older.

Archery maintains its high safety level through the proper training and certification of archery instructors. Our classes are taught by a USA Archery NTS certified instructor, and adhere to the safety guidelines of the USA Archery Instructor Training program, the official training courses of the National Archery Association (NAA). The NAA is affiliated with the Federation of International Target Archery (FITA), which is the international governing body for Olympic style archery competitions. Our instructors teach traditional archers, recreational archers, and bow hunters in addition to target archers.

All levels of archers are welcome to participate in this course. This program is designed to improve the shooting form and fundamentals of archery. The goal in our beginner’s class is to get archers grouping arrows consistently and eventually scoring, which will allow them to track their individual progress as they continue their training.

All equipment is provided by the Big Woods Goods Archery Academy; however, it is strongly encouraged that the participant brings their personal equipment if they own a set-up.

  • Class is 1 to 1.5 hours long.
  • Beginners class day and time: Sundays 11:30

Now that the fundamentals of archery are in place, the next step is to prepare the archer to successfully participate in sanctioned competitions of all disciplines by solidifying and improving upon the shooting process and overall form. We will focus on assessment and development of the individual archer's skill strengths, and begin to implement competitive techniques and the use of more advanced equipment. We will also focus on the different mental aspects of shooting archery. The goal of intermediate classes will be to challenge the archer to compete against their own achievements before competing against other archers. The archer will continue to learn range rules, procedures and etiquette.

  • Intermediate class day and time: Sunday 1:30 – 2:30
  • Cost per person: $17.99

The Advanced Classes and practice sessions are focused on competition for the advanced archer and are run by qualified archery coaches with no less than a Level 3 USAA certification.

There’s much more to developing a competitive athlete than just shooting form and archery practice. Our coaches are knowledgeable and experienced in all aspects of advanced archery. This includes, but is not limited to, sports psychology, equipment maintenance/tuning, physical training, and goal setting.

The Big Woods Goods Advanced Archery class requires that participants have their own equipment. We will be happy to guide and assist you in choosing the equipment of your choice and to ensure that you are properly fitted.

  • Advanced class day and time: Sunday 1:30 – 2:30
  • Cost per person: $17.99
